Water Guide

Find, move and retain the resource that turns Sand into Wet Sand.

Direct answer

Sustainable Water needs both a source and geometry that stops droplets escaping or evaporating.

1
RESOURCE

What Water does

Water is a critical production resource. Contact between one Sand pixel and one Water pixel replaces them with two Wet Sand pixels. Water is also absorbed by Spores to make Wet Spores.

Large factories need a sustainable source and controlled transport, not just a large starting pool.

2
SOURCE

Documented Water sources

The official wiki lists rain produced when Steam reaches the sky, melting Ice, underground Water deposits and Water duplication as sources.

It also notes that automatic duplication was not known at the captured revision. Treat creator claims about infinite Water as version-specific demonstrations, not a permanent rule.

  • Rain from Steam reaching the sky.
  • Melting Ice.
  • Pumping underground deposits.
  • Version-sensitive duplication workflows.
3
TRANSPORT

Pump, Pipe and Vent setup

A Pump touching Water sends it into connected Pipes and a Liquid Vent releases it at the other end. The Pump is permeable, so solids can enter and occupy the same pickup space the Water needs.

Only the central 2×2 area performs pickup in the captured official description. If transport stops, hover with the Grabber and look for non-Water material inside.

4
CONTAINMENT

Containment and evaporation

Water pools in depressions until the surface is flat. A droplet that cannot find a depression within 45 seconds can evaporate in the captured version.

Blocks, Conveyor Belts, Kinetic Slag Presses and Flux Emanators block Water flow, while corner gaps can leak. Seal diagonal corners rather than assuming two touching block corners are watertight.

  • Build the receiving basin before opening the source.
  • Test corner seals with a small amount.
  • Keep solids away from Pumps.
  • Add overflow capacity before increasing supply.
Verified facts used on this page
  • Water and Sand form Wet Sand.
  • Unsettled droplets can evaporate after 45 seconds.
  • Pumps send touching Water through Pipes.

Version boundary: Official mechanics are paired with two Early Access Water-factory demonstrations; duplication behavior is explicitly version-sensitive.

Questions answered

Water Guide FAQ

Five practical answers covering setup, troubleshooting and version-sensitive decisions.

Where can I get Water in Sandustry?

The documented routes include Ice, rain cycles and underground deposits. Choose a source you can contain before scaling transport: finding Water is only the first half of the system, because droplets that escape the collection geometry can be lost.

Why does Water disappear?

Unsettled Water droplets can evaporate after roughly 45 seconds in the captured official documentation. Seal gaps, shape collection corners so pixels settle, and shorten the path from source to storage instead of leaving exposed droplets waiting on open terrain.

How do Pump, Pipe and Liquid Vent work together?

A Pump picks up touching Water and sends it through connected Pipes; a Liquid Vent releases it at the destination. Keep the pickup face clear, verify pipe continuity and contain the vent outlet before assuming the source is too weak.

Why is my Water Pump not working?

Inspect the Pump's contact area for a solid pixel, confirm that Water actually touches the pickup region, and follow the entire Pipe route for a missing connection. Then check whether the destination Vent is contained rather than immediately losing the delivered Water.

How do I prevent Water leaking from a reservoir?

Use a sealed depression with no one-pixel corner escape, keep loose solids away from the Pump and test with a small amount first. Watch the complete fill-and-drain cycle before connecting the reservoir to a larger Wet Sand factory.
